McKibbon Hotel Group, Inc. is a privately owned company with a rich history.
The original company was founded by brothers John B. (Jack) McKibbon, Sr. and Marvin McKibbon in the 1920’s, when they started a small grocery store in Gainesville, Georgia, and later added a poultry processing plant. In the mid-1940’s, Jack McKibbon, Jr., newly returned from active duty as a pilot in World War II, convinced his father to open a restaurant. A few years later, a small motor court was added, and the family entered the hospitality business with the Avion Motor Lodge. In 1963, Jack McKibbon became one of the early franchisees of Holiday Inn when he opened an 86-room hotel in Gainesville. It was so successful, he later developed additional Holiday Inns throughout the state.
In the early 1990’s, John McKibbon, III, now Chairman, began divesting the company of its older hotels, and reinvested the proceeds into the development of Marriott brands located in urban and suburban markets in Georgia, the Carolinas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida. With corporate offices in Gainesville, Georgia and Tampa, Florida, the company is continuing development today by adding Hilton and Starwood hotels to its portfolio throughout the southeast.Christian principles and values are the core of all the McKibbon companies. The company mission, “To be a company that promotes an environment for the ministry of serving others.”
AVION PARK is a salute to McKibbon’s history, while at the same time, a look into the future of the company.
